Undocumented
Thousands of children born in informal settlements have no birth certificate, and therefore no school, no clinic, and no legal age.
Education programme
We do not only write about these children. We teach them.
Literacy, numeracy, and reporting, taught three afternoons a week in Amman, Beirut, and Cox’s Bazar. Children who can describe their own conditions accurately are harder to overlook.
Girls
Half the children we report on are girls. Their absence from the record is not accidental.
Where schooling stops for girls, documentation usually stops with it. We report on that sequence specifically, and four of our contributors are girls under sixteen.
